Drummond Island 2009

We had fun on our trip to Drummond Island despite the many problems we encountered.

On our way up, we had a trailer tire blow. We put the spare on and realized it was soft so we drove slowly to the nearest gas station to put air in it. We then drove to the nearest town that had a place to buy tires and bought a new "spare" tire. We made it the rest of the way to the island without any more troubles. However, Chad was checking out the trailer and realized that when the one tire blew, it damaged the tire in front of it. He went to put the new spare tire on and realized they sold him the wrong tire!!! It is a couple sizes too big, but we had to use it anyway.

Friday we all lined up to head out for a day of trail riding on the island. This picture shows us ready to head out. Yes, all nine of us fit in the Broncostar.

Here is a picture of the group before we left the resort where we were staying. Chad was doing some last minute fixes on the drive shaft before we took off.

Now, more troubles began. Shortly after we got out in the woods, the drive shaft problems got even worse. He ended up taking it out and we were two-wheel drive for a while, then a U-joint went as well. At that point, the older girls and I found rides with other people so there was the least amount of weight in the van as possible so Chad could make sure to get back out to the road. From this point on, I didn't have my camera so I don't have any more pictures. I did take some pictures with a friend's camera and when she sends them to me, I'll post them here because the babies were having fun with their first time at a beach.

I meant to take a picture of our cabin and the resort, but never got around to it. On Saturday the men went back out wheelin' with the kids (Chad "fixed" his drive shaft problems), but the drive shaft broke shortly after noon so he and the kids headed back. I had been scrapbooking all morning and playing with the babies. Chad ended up taking the girls to another beach while the babies and I ran some errands.

It started raining just as we were finishing up dinner on Saturday night. It rained during the night, but stopped just in time for us to load things up in the morning. We held a church service right at the resort (it was supposed to be at fossil beach, but we didn't have a way to get out there since the Broncostar was back out of commission). Everyone from our group came (except for two families), the owner of the resort and a few employees as well. Chad preached about dinosaurs and creation. It was a good service and you could tell God was working in some people's hearts.

The drive home was less dramatic than the ride up and we were glad to be in the comfort of our own home. I can't wait to go back!

Thankful for Help!

Chad, his dad, and his friend, Jonathan, worked very hard Tuesday night and got the trusses up! We are very thankful to Gordon and Jonathan for their help and I am especially thankful to have the trusses moved so we could get into the shed and put the air conditioners in the house!

Update on Team Carmichael

Team Carmichael is doing well; we are just staying really busy. Chad is trying to put up a roof over the wood pile (he needs help putting the trusses up), trying to fix things so we can go on vacation next weekend, working in the garden, keeping up with general life things, etc.

Darcy had her first midwife appointment yesterday and was able to hear the heartbeat. She had no difficulty finding it and it was strong and steady!

Dara had her piano recital on Monday night so she now has the summer off of piano practice, although she still enjoys playing it every once in a while.

Everyone who participated in the piano recital this year. Mrs. Jeannie had maternity leave this year and some of the students didn't return for the remainder of the year so it was a small group this year.

Dara play a duet with Rachelle. They played "Amazing Grace" and it was beautiful!

Dara played two solos. She had both memorized and did a great job with both songs!

Martha and Jaina are now both walking all the time! Martha has been walking for about a month and Jaina for about two weeks. It took me a while to get pictures of them so I could put them on here!

I love pictures of sleeping kids! Here are a few cute ones!
